Research data publishing in scientific data repositories: a survey
Assante M., Baldacci M. B., Candela L., Castelli D., Tani A.
In this study we analyse the solutions offered by scientific data repositories to research data publishing. In particular, we focus on generalist repositories, i.e., repositories supporting the deposition of any research data. We have analysed the current practices promoted by such repositories with respect to 8 key aspects in data publishing, i.e., dataset formatting, documentation, licensing, publication costs, validation, availability, discovery and access, and citation.Source: ISTI Technical reports, 2015

DRIVER II - Digital Repository Infrastructure Vision for European Research – Phase II
Artini M., Baldacci M. B., Bardi A., Bosio C., Castelli D., Manghi P., Mikulicic M., Zoppi F.
DRIVER is a multi-phase effort whose vision and primary objective is to establish a cohesive, pan-European infrastructure of Digital Repositories, offering sophisticated functionally services to both researchers and the general public. Its aims to introduce key innovations compared to the original “DRIVER” project, while building on its results. The main novelties envisioned are: Establishment of a “European Confederation of Digital Repositories” as a strategic arm of DRIVER; Inclusion of Digital Repositories with non-textual or non-publication content, e.g., images, presentations, and possibly primary data; Construction of “enhanced publications”, which combine interrelated information objects into a logical whole, e.g., publications coupled with relevant presentations and associated datasets; Provision of advanced functionality to address the requirements raised by the above innovations or to serve varied modes of scientists’ research explorations. Additionally, DRIVER Phase-II moves from a test-bed to a production-quality infrastructure, expands the geographical coverage of Digital Repositories included in it, intensifies state-of-the-art and future-direction studies, and escalates dissemination, training, and community building activities. “DRIVER Phase-II” significantly broadens the horizons of the DRIVER endeavour regarding infrastructure operation, functionality innovation, and community relevance, and is a major step on the way to the envisioned Knowledge Society.

DRIVER - Digital Repository Infrastructure Vision for European Research
Artini M., Baldacci M. B., Bardi A., Bosio C., Castelli D., Manghi P., Mikulicic M., Zoppi F.
The DRIVER Infrastructure is an implementation of D-NET (see) and hosts one main aggregation system, integrating Open Access metadata records from a growing number of European Institutional Repositories. At present, the infrastructure runs 36 services distributed over 9 partner sites; as a result of the Confederation efforts, the resulting Information Space numbers 1,000,000+ records out of 200+ repositories across 27 countries, and the number of repositories willing to join is still growing. Currently, the space is accessed by three DL applications: the Belgium national repository portal, offering search over the Belgium Repository Federation subset; Recolecta national repository portal, offering search on the Spanish Repository Federation subset; and the main DRIVER portal, providing access and advanced functionality over the whole space.

Report on inter-projects coordination and collaboration
Castelli D., Baldacci M. B.
This deliverable reports on the collaborations with other FP6 & FP7 projects and R&D programmes established by D4Science from the beginning of the project to September 2008. These collaborations are of different nature, as they range from purely technical exchanges involving mutual exploitation of technologiesto the sharing of e-Infrastructure resources and to the joint organisation of networking and dissemination events. The deliverable presents these collaborations clustered into: (i) Technological projects, which either develop technologies that can be exploited by D4Science or that use the D4Science developed ones (e.g. EGEE III, Health-e-Child, ETICS-2, SAPIR, DRIVER II, NEON); (ii) User Communities related projects, which comprise projects and initiatives that have started collaborating with D4Science through the mediation of the scientific communities represented in the project (e.g. FIE, FIM, FIES, CGIAR, NAFO, CWP); (iii) Other projects and initiatives, which include EU projects and initiatives addressing aspects complementary to the technological one, like exploitation, outreach and sustainability (e.g. OGF-Europe, BELIEF-II, DL.org) and iv) Standardization Working Groups, which refers to on-going collaborations with standardization Working Groups (e.g. OGF Data Working Group, Dublin Core AgMES-Agricultural Metadata Element Set). We expect that the number of collaborations will be increased in the next future as an effect of the availability of the production infrastructure. These new collaborations will be reported in an update version of this deliverable that will be published at M20.Source: Project report, D4SCIENCE, Deliverable DNA2.2a, 2008
